Article summary: Information on authorizations run when you book an appointment, including: what happens if you cancel or reschedule an appointment with an authorization, how to update your card if you fail the authorization, and how authorization charges relate to late-canceled or no-show appointments.
Temporary authorizations at time of booking
Appointments booked within 48 hours of the appointment start time will be authorized. We will temporarily hold funds from your card on file at the time of booking. We hold enough funds to cover the cost plus a little extra to account for price changes and tip.
NOTE: The authorization amount is not the actual charge for your appointment. Your checkout amount will be adjusted to reflect the service total agreed upon between you and your profession after services are provided at the end of your appointment.
Why does StyleSeat run the authorization and temporarily hold funds?
No-shows and late cancellations can be very difficult to fill with less than a week’s notice so issuing a temporary charge helps our professionals protect their time and prioritize clients who are serious about booking.
Updating your card to pass the auth
If you do not have sufficient funds to cover the authorization, you will need to update your card with a payment method that has the funds. You will have until the day of appointment to update your card or re-enter the original card that is funded to cover the cost of the appointment.
If you need to cancel or reschedule
The hold will be lifted and your money will be available in your account in 1-3 business days.
If you cancel late or don’t show up
If you cancel or do not show for the appointment within 24 hours of the appointment start time, you will be charged a fee based on the professionals no-show late cancellation policy and the remainder will be returned to your account in 1-3 business days. If you cancel outside of this window, your authorization will be returned to you within 1-3 business days from the date you cancel.
Frequently Asked Questions | FAQ
I already paid a booking fee, why am I being charged again?
Please note this authorization is not related to your booking fee. Your booking fee will be charged separately.
If I reschedule my appointment, will I be authorized again?
If your rescheduled appointment falls within the original 48 hour window, your auth will carry over to the new appointment. If you reschedule your appointment to a later date outside of the 48 hours window, your auth will be returned within 1-3 business days and you will not be re-authorized for the new appointment.
Why does my authorization show up as a charge in my bank account?
Depending on your bank, your authorization may appear like a charge in your account, even though it is just a temporary hold.
